Strong and Spacious
I’m developing a love-hate relationship with lifting weights.
Heavy things are hard. Gym machines feel unintuitive and awkward. None of it comes naturally to me. And yet - I go. I show up because staying strong matters to me: for my health, for my aging body, and for my kiddos.
The gym has been reminding me that growth isn’t particularly fun in the moment. As with most things worthwhile, the payoff lives on the other side of the effort.
The love part of weight-training sneaks in sometimes while I’m counting reps (out loud on exhales to remind me to breathe!) and suddenly I drop into a flow state. I notice my body meeting resistance with presence and persistence. This is when I feel my real strength.
Thanks, yoga, for teaching me how to observe discomfort without clinging to ease or tipping into overwhelm.
Next month, I’m teaching a special yoga class focused on building presence in the face of challenge - read more here. You can also find an added class on my ATX public schedule.
Let’s be strong in 2026.
